I’ve been excited about this for too long, the many, many delays and the big hype about it returning to the cinema when plenty of people still don’t feel comfortable about sitting in dark rooms with lots of strangers, all of which were somehow both frustrating but also just adding to my expectations. Firstly, it’s important to say, this is a better movie than Spectre. I don’t remember a lot about Spectre, only that it didn’t live up to Skyfall, and I wish I’d known this was going to carry on with a lot of the same characters, as I would have rewatched ahead of time.
It’s better than the predecessor, but I don’t know that it’s actually very good. The pacing seems really weird, which is hard to take in a movie nearly three hours long. Some brilliant characters don’t get nearly enough airtime (Paloma spin-off please) and if I’m honest, I never really followed the underlying plot of who was doing what to who and why and what the over-arching plan was supposed to be.
But, then again, there was great Bond action sequences, some old school quips, fab fight scenes, and a wonderful supporting cast. It’s just a completely mixed review from start to finish. The more I think about it, the more I wish Craig had signed off with Skyfall.
