Vying for the title of World's Greatest Villain, Gru (voiced by Steve Carell) - along with his hilarious crew of mischievous minions - plots to pull off the craziest crime of the century: steal the moon! But when Gru enlists the help of three little girls, they see something in him nobody else has ever seen: the perfect dad.
I always knew I wanted to see this since I saw the trailer when the one yellow thing punched the other yellow thing. I was sold. I didn’t know much else about it, other than I heard Steve Carrell talking about it on a radio show once.
00:00:43 - Already I want a minion of my own and the film hasn’t even started yet. 00:01:44 - Julie Andrews! 00:03:19 - Ooh, who is going to check out the pyramids to make sure they’re not inflatable? 00:04:04 - Hehehe, I love him. 00:05:34 - Panda rug! Now I have to not like him. 00:09:06 - I like the idea of having a screaming crowd ready to cheer you up whenever you want. 00:13:46 - That youngest kid is just like Boo. 00:14:37 - That’s my kind of parallel parking! **00:19:37 **- Tiny elephant!! **00:22:08 **- Star Wars should have had air fight sequences like that. **00:23:33 **- He’s playing a Wii. Evil people play Wii’s too. **00:24:12 **- Fists coming out of the wall, it’s just like Total Wipeout. **00:25:43 **- “Liiightbulbbb.” I’m going to be saying that. **00:29:15 **- “How do I remove it? Is there a command?” Sadly not with kiddies. **00:32:54 **- “Somebody broke that.” I’m going to be using that too! **00:36:30 **- Minions on the ceiling! Blatantly stolen from the Willy Wonka movie though. **00:37:11 **- The oldest girl is voiced by the girl from Drake and Josh, right? **00:39:10 - Woah, I’d stop drinking Coke if it had that effect!** **00:46:53 **- They made the minion into a glow stick! **00:50:33 **- “Look at that fluffy unicorn! It’s so fluffy I want to die!” **00:52:44 **- “It’s so fluffy!!” **00:54:57 **- Just had to explain the concept of Stuffed Crust to Mr C. **00:57:54 **- Minions have resumés! **01:02:47 **- “Pretty please?” “The physical appearance of the please makes no difference.” **01:06:13 **- Russell Brand is pretty good in this. Not a fan of his normally. **01:12:17 - Great recall on the gravity minion. I’d forgotten! ****01:12:48 **- They have a minion mission control. 01:14:42 - That bit was in the trailer and still it was funny. **01:21:35 **- How many times can one person be crushed by the moon before they give up? **01:29:46 - Woot! Bonus points for extra stuff during the credits. **
Another film that made us laugh a significant amount! We were both in need of something simple and amusing, and this was both of those. I would say it doesn’t have the multi-layer elements that make a kids film really something special, but if you just want to zone out in front of the TV for 90 minutes, it’s perfect.
I don’t want to make a habit out of putting clips into these posts, but you have to watch this to the end. It’s SO fluffy!
