This movie is an absolute proof that trailers don’t do justice to full length films. We watched two trailers for this and both of them looked really poor, confusing and not funny. But we thought, you know what, it’s bright, it’s got Kristen Wiig in it, and we have to give it a go as an early rental. I’m so glad we did because it was BRILLIANT.

It’s one of those movies that is kind of indescribable - the best I can do is say it’s a cross between Romy & Michele and Austin Powers, which is pretty hard to imagine. But it was funny, it was cute, it was relatively gentle, it was meta and bizarre but brilliant. I think there are heaps of jokes that went over our heads and I also think there are a lot of layers to unpick which can only happen upon several rewatches.

You’ll love or hate the film, but you have to give it a go even if the trailer doesn’t do it for you.
