1:00 “A young shoot, all green.”
3:45 Ooh, Mulan could be a new Tomb Raider with moves like that.
5:45 “Chi is for warriors, not daughters.” Not mutually exclusive things.
9:14 Well that made me dizzy.
13:37 I’m impressed by the straight line of her make up.
18:39 Not as auspicious as they thought.
30:36 It’s always the voice that lets them down. Same as in She’s The Man.
33:59 “We’re going to make men out of every single one of you.” I mean…
35:50 This is a really good training montage.
42:12 That water must be so cold! Not a nice bath.
48:15 They make such good shapes, it’s an art.
50:52 Of course the water is hard and the distance crazy, but it’s the uneven steps that get me. I’d fall off the mountain.
57:35 That thundering noise of hooves is really terrifying.
1:01:08 Looks like we have yellow shirts rather than red shirts in this one.
1:08:48 She’s a smartie pants. I like it.
1:10:51 Chi did it!
1:16:44 Her horse is some kind of duracell bunny, it gets no rest.
1:23:23 That training montage was really effective!
1:30:05 Aww, she did say it was too late for her.
1:35:37 Ming-Na!
1:44:44 “The girl became a soldier, the soldier became a leader, and the leader became a legend.”

Mulan is one of the Disney movies that passed me by but we were intrigued by this Premier Access thing on Disney+ so had to test it out. I know there have been some complaints that this remake doesn’t feature any of the songs from the original animated musical, but I actually quite liked that. It was a bit more serious in tone because of that.

It wasn’t perfect - there were a lot of moments where I thought, ooh a bit Matrix, yep gone a bit Bond, etc. But you can’t really fault a story where a woman is incredibly awesome, proves everyone wrong and shows that misogyny only serves to get your emperor killed.

Some elements of it made me a bit dizzy, walking up walls and spinning round a building site made my head fizz a bit, but overall, it was a good movie with a lot of heart. Very Disney. Very good.
