This was the perfect film for our mood at the time - something a little bit frothy where the stakes aren’t too high. But it certainly wasn’t a perfect film by any stretch. Firstly, the stranger you meet who turns out to be your boss is such a cliche by now, surely a concept to be avoided? It was predictable in a lot of places, although still heralded a few surprises along the way.
Mostly it was annoying, though, because the guy just totally ruined everything. He was awful to her, she forgave him far too easily, and then he was awful again (he over-reacted about the journalist incredibly) and then she had to grovel to him by buying a whole god-damn plane ticket when she didn’t actually have anywhere to go.
The good bits were great, and I really enjoyed Daddario’s bumbling and face-pulling, but as a story and therefore as a film, it was not great.
