2:27 Already I’m thinking good song, but that is far too much information to take in.
6:18 “Talk less, smile more.”
13:06 The guy with the woolly hat on must be so hot.
20:30 Really, my history is so bad and this is just making me feel bad!
31:10 There’s so much material in the dresses in those days.
39:24 “At least I keep his eyes in my life.” That’s a weird sentence.
44:35 “I’m not standing still, I’m lying in wait.”
51:03 He shouldn’t call him son, surely Lin is older than he is?
53:51 All that material means you don’t need maternity clothes, I guess.
58:35 I like the way the people keep materialising around the edges.
1:05:30 Theodosia is not a name I’ve heard before.
1:16:40 Not sure I like a 1 minute intermission - what’s the point?
1:24:14 “Winning was easy, governing is harder.”
1:30:33 Re-using actors is fine, of course, but isn’t that the other sister? Bit weird.
1:32:49 It just doesn’t seem like this Hamilton guy is particularly nice.
1:37:49 Clever when the callback phrases pop up from previous songs.
1:49:05 That’s the thing about politics, right, if you pick a side, that side might not always be the winners.
1:59:16 It boggles my mind how they walk on and off the moving stage without even blinking. I would fall over repeatedly.
2:08:11 This guy has died twice in the same show.
2:11:59 “I know I don’t deserve you, Eliza.” True story.
2:24:15 Surely the tension of this bit is ruined because he already told us how it’s gonna go.
2:30:26 Why aren’t we telling Eliza’s story? She sounds ace.

Well. That was an experience.

Everyone has heard of Hamilton at this point, and although I was excited to be able to watch it for free on Disney Plus (already a subscriber for Star Wars reasons), I wasn’t completely sure I was going to like it.

And actually, I liked it more than I thought I was going to but that still wasn’t enough to make it a complete success.

The music was brilliant and the staging really good, if a little bit busy at times. But I don’t know anything about history or politics and was too stupid to follow the story when it was being told so fast. So by the end, I still didn’t know who this Hamilton guy was, what he’d achieved, or why we should care about him. He didn’t seem like a particularly nice guy.

But could have lived with all of that, until the last five minutes when Eliza suddenly revealed all the reasons she was so brilliant, and yet spent her days trying to make sure her husband was remembered. Honestly.
