You ever hear the one about the cop, the blonde, the psycho and the mafia princess? Birds Of Prey And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn is a twisted tale told by Harley herself, as only Harley can tell it. When one of Gotham's most sinister villains, Roman Sionis, and his sadistic right-hand, Zsasz, put a target on a young girl named Cass, the city's wicked underbelly is turned upside down looking for her. Harley, Huntress, Canary and Renee Montoya's paths collide and the unlikely foursome have no choice but to team up to take Roman down.

1:27“Mr J, my Joker.”
3:01Who would pick anything over a pig??
8:03I’ve never heard the word emancipation quite so much.
10:43“She just publically updated her relationship status.”
17:57I’m amazed her handkerchief is white, considering the rest of the outfit.
23:09I don’t want to be hit in the face with a glitter bomb.
27:41Margot plays a very good drunk.
32:36The gold trousers are fun.
37:10“He’s a thousand years old and now he’s just an ornament in my living room.”
43:47There’s people that kill, and then there’s people that kill with popcorn.
51:50This has veered just a little bit into dance fighting, killer of men.
59:36I don’t like the hyena but I like the marmot in a tutu.
1:07:55“No cop ever gets anything done until after they’ve been suspended.”
1:11:49It’s an incredible soundtrack.
1:16:09“You killed my SANDWICH.”
1:20:48Enjoying her not being able to get the “they call me” done properly.
1:25:05“I DON’T HAVE RAGE ISSUES.”
1:28:54I’m pretty sure you can’t fight for your life on skates.
1:34:58Weird how it’s gone all Gotham now. Was definitely New York earlier.
1:37:26Just when it’s starting to be genius, it explodes a guy off a pier.
1:41:42There’s whimsical and then there’s your eyeshadow being two different colours.

Thoughts

We’ve sort of come to the conclusion that doing the DC universe in order is a) not worth it and b) not actually going to happen as we’ve already done random Batmans, Supermans, Wonder Womans, etc. So, without knowing anything about Harley Quinn, we dived right in!

I took quite a long time to come round to this movie, and definitely considered stopping it at the twenty minute rule. But I’m glad I didn’t because after the first half hour or so, I started warming to it, and by the end I was completely on board.

It was needlessly violent - I really didn’t need to see a man’s legs bend the wrong way in the very first scene, or see a family get their faces ripped off. But on the other hand, I loved that the women were properly kick-ass, and after a while the men barely managed to get a punch in.

I liked the way the story looped back on itself as Harley skipped around and filled in the blanks, and I like how the crew of four ended up together. There were some creative moments in there, and I thought the amusement park fight scene was great.

So overall it was a bit of a rollercoaster for me in terms of liking, disliking, and finally loving, but overall I’m glad I watched it.
