The Girl on the Train

The Girl on the Train

Obviously I knew the main plot points and how it all unravelled but it was still really fascinating to see how they worked through it on the screen. It worked pretty well. I wonder if I wouldn’t have struggled a little to start with, it felt quite confusing despite me already knowing the plot, but it soon settled down into a good unpredictable thriller.

John Wick: Chapter 2

These movies are so good because they’re like James Bond but without all the other crap that goes along with being Bond. Fun locations, spy games, lots of action and the occasional bit of humour. But no misogyny, no having to bother about the politics, and not a whole lot of talking really.

John Wick

John Wick

We spent quite a lot of time going, ooh Matrix and ooh Speed, but actually, this film did seem to avoid most of the normal action cliches. He spent the whole time looking for this guy and then eventually dispatched him with just a couple of gunshots. And it was quite fun how cars seemed to be his nemesis. He could fight a hundred people at once, but got hit by at least three cars.

The Terminator

The Terminator

Despite the fact that this film is so very dated, and the special effects are nothing to write home about, it did strike a chord with me. The time travel element was good. However, I got a bit bored by the ‘just won’t die’ element of the Terminator. A bit like the slasher films when they always get back up again. Still, I’ll put Terminator 2 on my list.

National Treasure

This film is everything that the Da Vinci Code should have been. It has a great story, lots of puzzles and intrigue, and as mentioned above, is very Tomb Raider. Nicholas Cage is also very endearing, and the girl isn’t annoying, so big thumbs up from me.

Point Break

I’m not really interested in surfing at all, but I did like this. Perhaps it was Keanu. Either way, it’s fun to watch a good cop drama with an unusual premise. There was a little bit too much swearing but it wasn’t really obnoxious, so I’m down with that. Plus, Keanu was in it.

Reservoir Dogs

Reservoir Dogs

Another film that I have seen before, but this was a spur of the moment purchase on iTunes so I had no real thoughts or expectations when it came to watching it. Not even slightly how I remembered it. A lot more bloody, and certainly more moody than I recalled. However, that was mostly endearing (aside from the ear), and the characters are awesome. I never quite know where I stand on writer/directors who cast themselves in movies though. At least it was only a small part.

Flatliners

I have definitely seen this one before, perhaps at the request of Mr C, but I think it might have been late at night and I probably wasn’t paying attention. I recall it as the one where they pretended to be dead which is factually incorrect. I like the idea of this film, and the story is good, but my god it is hard work. All that smoke, and blue/red lighting, it gets a bit trying. Still, some of the lines are funny, and the characters are good. I’m not sure I would recommend this onwards, but I don’t want my two hours back.

Ocean's Eleven

Ocean's Eleven

I have seen this film before, a couple of times perhaps, and knew that I liked it going in. The trouble was, I couldn’t remember what happens in it, but it didn’t take long for it to come flooding back. I suspect this is one of those films that is much better watching as if it’s new.
