Robin Hood

Robin Hood

So, my goodness. This is a flawed but very, very fun film. I’ll be honest and admit that at about 18 minutes we were very much considering the twenty minute rule. But it gradually got better and better and I got more and more invested. It’s an odd cast, some very talented people but do they all fit together? I don’t know. And my word, the accents. If it wasn’t for people missing their accents all the time, this would for sure be a five star film.

Captain Marvel

So, this was probably my second favourite Marvel movie after Black Panther. It was good and inspirational and nice and the music was incredible. I wish all movies were set in the 90s because omg those songs. On the one hand, Carol Danvers is an incredible hero. Your normal but awesome fighter pilot military woman who then gets next level powers to defend the universe from the big bad.

Ant-Man & the Wasp

Ant-Man & the Wasp

Weirdly, I wasn’t really looking forward to it. I liked the first one, and it’s Paul Rudd for crying out loud, but I just felt a bit meh about it. Thankfully, the movie was really good. Funny, emotional in places, and with a good story that makes sense. There was that usual bit of ‘what the hell is going on I don’t remember any Marvel movies I’m going to have to watch all of them again’ thing which was kinda annoying, but once past that, it was great.

The LEGO Movie 2

The LEGO Movie 2

I was nervous about watching this film because I vividly remember the first one being overwhelming and exhausting. It’s the bright colours teamed with the volume of references (both audio and visual). This film carries on in much the same vain and was equally exhausting. It’s good, though, don’t get me wrong. The voice acting is fabulous, the meta references are wonderful and there is underneath it all a really good and sort of heartwarming story about family.

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

The trailer to this didn’t really make any sense to me, and didn’t make me want to see the film with any rapidity - that’s part of the reason it’s taken so long to watch it. Actually, the story does make sense and holds its own quite well. I don’t think I liked it as much as the first one but it had more story and morals and plot points which made it kinda different.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald

Oh god, it was just so boring! I knew going into it that I had forgotten a good portion of the first film. But I thought I had enough of a hazy memory to get by. The guy who had his memory wiped, Newt and his nifflers, and Grindelwald at the end, with the kid that turned into a black scribble mess in the sky. That should do it right?

Solo

The negative reviews that this film has garnered had me a bit nervous about what on earth I was going to watch, and that’s why it’s taken so long to get round to viewing it. But actually, it was an alright film. There wasn’t really anything wrong with it as films go, the problem is just that it didn’t really add anything to the Star Wars story.

Bumblebee

Bumblebee

I pretty much knew I was going to love this movie from the outset. Bumblebee is everyone’s favourite Transformer, and I heart Hailee, so it was a good match. And the film was pretty much what I thought it would be - emotional scenes, an epic amount of cuteness, but tinged with those big robot fight sequences.

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse

I was really nervous about watching this one, given the hype and how extremely loved it is by most who have watched it. Spider-Man has always been a bit sort of love/hate, really, but the recent game has warmed me to Peter Parker’s universe enormously. I was glad we had played the game before this, to know who Miles and Fisk were, but even with that, I imagine there’s a lot we missed. I suspect this was aimed at the comic book fans more than those who have enjoyed the movies.

How to Train Your Dragon 2

I wasn’t blown away by the first movie of this series, but the dragon was cute and the voice-cast good so the second one was worth a go. I kinda wish I hadn’t. It was all fine, interesting enough story, the odd funny moment and Toothless was being much cuter in this one.
