The Firm by John Grisham

Here’s the annoying thing: I may have read this before, I don’t remember, but I read it now because we watched the film adaptation. And although in 9 times out of 10 the book is always better than the movie, in this instance I’m not so sure. If I’d read this before watching it, it’d probably have been a straight up 5 out of 5, John Grisham writes law adventures exceedingly well, of course.

I was vaguely aware of there being a TV adaptation of this book but knew very little about it, except there was a small time travelling element. Of course that spoke to me, so whilst having not seen the TV show, I thought I’d check out the book. The time travel is only a small part of it, the rest being more of a historical romance drama, but it does still have an impact at various points along the way.

It took me a while to get into this one, I couldn’t quite figure out why we were following a detective that had all but solved his case, alongside a woman bitter about the sexism in her office. It was a slow start but once things came to a head and our hero Jane Tennison took over the investigation, it was far more interesting.
