I’m so gutted by the news that Peter Kay isn’t planning on any more Car Share. Plans change and things have a habit of being resurrected when you least expect it, but for the moment, Kay suggests the show is done.
There’s not going to be a series three so it won’t ever happen. You’ve got to get out while the going’s good. No Christmas special, no… There’s only so much you can do in a car and the last thing you want to do is ruin it because I think it’s a lovely thing.
I can totally understand this point of view, and fully respect an artist’s right to call time on something even when it’s intensely popular and sought after by fans.
The first series was a perfect capsule of wonderfulness. The second series was also brilliant:
But the second series ended on a note that very definitely requires more information. I could have lived with the ending of the first series and always had a happy thought in my mind about how things probably worked out. After the second series, I do not have that warm, fluffy feeling that things are probably going to be okay. And that’s why I think it’s unfair of Peter Kay to end things here.
One way or the other it is unresolved, and now the whole thing is slightly less appealing. You don’t have to answer the will-they, won’t-they but you have to end with a sense that things will be alright in the end, even if you don’t show the end.
Dammit, for something that was so inspirational to me, it’s now left me discombobulated and annoyed.
