2012 Wk 34 & 35 – Stepping out

It’s not been a good couple of weeks, I’ll be honest. I had hoped to go out for a longer run this weekend but I only had two opportunities – one of them was far too hot to even consider and the other one… well, I went for a nap instead. You know how it is.

The last six runs I have done have been thirty minutes each, and have gradually gotten worse. For example, distance covered in kilometres:

  • 3.51
  • 3.60
  • 3.36
  • 3.38
  • 3.35
  • 3.24

That last one was actually today (Monday), which I am sneaking in to this rundown. On the small space that Runkeeper allow you for notes, I typed some complaints about my shoes. I’m wondering if it’s time for new trainers but I haven’t gone that far on the ones I currently have. It’s probably worth buying some new ones anyway, because if the current ones are rubbish, they can be replaced. And if they aren’t rubbish, I can have two pairs in circulation.

In other Runkeeper news, they appear to have suddenly made all the Fitness Classes free, which is a) good and b) makes my Elite subscription almost worthless. Where I had abandoned my last class midway through, there were a heap of unsmiley red faces which was about as demotivating as anything can be. Because they’ve changed, it makes me want to sign up for another class, but I don’t think that’s a good idea when I’m not feeling comfortable with what I’m doing. I don’t want more unsmiley red faces glaring at me each time I open the app.

Finally, I’m considering what to supplement my running with. The nearby leisure centre has some classes that have caught my eye, I know I want to go swimming but absolutely won’t be able to, and if all else fails I have a workout or two on the iPad that I can complete at home. I figure if I can diversify a little, I might be able to take some of the pressure off those running shoes! (But I have a feeling I’ve said all this before and have not yet done anything about it.)

  1. As far as working out at home goes I really recommend pretty much any DVD from Jillian Michaels, but her 3-2-1 system on 30 Day Shred and Ripped in 30 is fabulous.
    I’ve just started her 90 day Body Revolution workout, I did workout 1 yesterday and today I can barely move my arms. Ouch.
