On my way home from work, I pass by one of those old computer shops. You know the kind I mean, where they have stacks of dusty old PCs and monitors, they take them apart and put them back together again, and hope for some business. The shop looks pretty dated, and I’ve never seen a customer go in there.
In fact, I had barely noticed it at all until recently. Thanks to the beautiful roadworks that bring an abrupt halt to my journey, I found myself stopped outside the shop, eyeing it up to pass the time.
The outside marketing reads:
“computers – hardware – repairs – maitenance – leasing”
Woah, woah, wait a minute. Maitenance? There’s something wrong there.
One of two things can have happened:
- Ten years ago, they bought up the sign and didn’t notice it was wrong. They haven’t noticed in the following decade and even now they still don’t know. In that case, I don’t think I’d trust them to fix my computer.
- Ten years ago, they bought up the sign and did notice it was wrong, but decided that it didn’t matter. They’d either spent too much on the sign or couldn’t be bothered to get it changed. In that case… I don’t think I’d trust them to fix my computer.
It’s not exactly win-win, is it?
