Better than chocolate

Our stationery suppliers often send free gifts as a thank you for our custom, and presumably an incentive to stay. Most of the time this is boxes of chocolates, or fancy biscuits. As it turns out, our stationery orderer (that’s not a word, is it?), went off the idea of eating them all, and has been hoarding them up for a special tombola day. That was yesterday.

Initially, I had myself a box of chocolates, but after some rather furious swapping – seriously it was like bartering at a marketplace – I have wound up with a cuddly Christmas polar bear. I instantly took the Christmas tag off, so in fact, it’s just a polar bear with a pretty scarf.

Thing is, my polar bear friend needs a name, and I’m sure you can come up with something. I can only think of Percy, because Percy the Polar Bear sounds good. But he doesn’t look like a Percy.

Also, what with Polar Bears and Pandas, I’m starting to realise that 99% of the animals I like begin with a P. More on this soon, I think.

Well, in keeping with my tradition of naming bears after Ferrari Grand Prix drivers (Carlos Reutemann) for the Panda, I can only say that Gilles would be a perfect name for a Polar Bear.

Gilles is a French name, like Pierre and Franck. But you get to honour both both Gilles Villeneuve and all the French-speaking Polar Bears in the province of Quebec.

Personally, I think you owe them one just for that butchery of Quebois-speak, or what actually passses for french in Quebec…. (2007 Canada Grand Prix Pre-race show….)
