Three Peugeot drives announced

Peugeot Sport announced their lineup yesterday for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, confirming that Montagny would join them for the second year in a row. He’ll also turn up for a couple of prepatory events, the 12 Hours of Sebring, and 1000 Kilometres of Spa. I’ve never heard of either of these events but am now very excited about them.

FKM’s team mates for Spa and Sebring have been announced as follows:

Sebring – FKM, Stéphane Sarrazin, Sébastien Bourdais
Spa – FKM, Stéphane Sarrazin

Bourdais will be racing in Formula 1 during the Spa event. Unfortunately we have to wait until later in the year for the Le Mans crews to be announced. Fingers crossed Klien is in a different car.

Of the announcement, Franck said:

“I am very happy to continue with Peugeot. We had a lot of testing during the winter, with is even more important this year because of the new sporting and technical regulations. We’ll have to be very careful with the tyres as there will be less aerodynamics on the LMP1 prototypes, particularly in difficult weather. Another change is that there will be only two mechanics to change the tyres, so we’ll have a little more time to swap the drivers. The aim for sure is that Peugeot win the Le Mans 24 Hours this year, after the 2nd and 3rd places in 2008.”

Apparently, Franck’s heading to the US next week to discuss the possibilities of working with Andretti-Green again. I’ll keep you posted if there’s any updates on that front.

  1. Sebring is in Florida and is one of the classic sportscar races that goes back to the 60s if not earlier.

Nice to see Bourdais taking us back to the days of proper racing drivers who don’t just do F1. Maybe the F1 testing ban will lead to more F1 drivers competing in other classes. I might even be in favour of the ban if that was to be the result.

I think maybe that’s why I enjoyed RoC so much, it was good to see the guys outside their natural environment.
