I got myself the Google Phone last week, and have been playing around with it for a while. I’m not going to do an extensive review of it, because there are gadgety types who can do that much better than I can. All I will say for now is that I love it, and as I find things I really like, I’ll be sure to tell you all about them.
One of the first Apps I have downloaded for the phone is called Barcode Scanner. It’s one of those applications that is designed to try and save you money. You scan a barcode, using the camera through the app, and it finds the appropriate product, searching for the cheapest available option. If you’re out and about at the shops, it should find the nearest bargain for you.
Now, we don’t tend to go near any shops for a big purchase without having fully researched the item first. I’m not sure how useful I’ll find this app, but having said that, it is amazing fun.
When it first started up, I scrabbled for the nearest barcode, and it found it straight away. After that, it’s addictive. I scoured my entire house for barcodes and scanned everything, disappointed if it couldn’t find it, and elated if it could.
I don’t know why such a simple thing should make me happy, but it does. Perhaps I should work in a supermarket when I grow up.
